OCR Raceway 2006 Oval Track Championships
This spectacular event proved to be a real eye opener for all involved with some major upsets, lap record breaking slideways action, and an unexpected win from Jamie Fava driving a HN Racing X1CR RTR up against some of the best seasoned oval racers around , former oval champions and some big horsepower engines and cars
The 5 qualifying rounds were hotly contested with the drivers going all out in front of a huge crowd of RC Motorsport fans to gain a grid position in the Top Ten Shootout final, with Phillip Ciccone taking pole position with a record breaking FTD of 39 laps in 5m00.571secs with Nathan Tampe close behind, the only other driver to complete a 39 lap qualifier with 39 laps in 5m02.173 secs and Marc Christianson taking the number 3 grid position with 38 laps in 5m03.464, with under 1 second between the next 5 drivers and 2005 defending champ Tony Knauth rounding out the Top Ten, the final was going to be close.
In true speedway oval style the final was run in anticlockwise direction with a staggered grid standing start. After a good clean start the racing ran hard and fast with all drivers on the lead lap until lap 18 when lead up event winner Shannon Thissen dropped out with an engine flame out. With 8 drivers on the lead lap in the closing stages of the race, some do or die passing manouvers came into play, causing a bit of havoc, with 6 drivers getting caught up on the final lap it was left open for Jamie Fava and Phillip Ciccone to finish one lap ahead of the field in spectacular style.
