UPGRADE / RCiD 2008 Points Series - Round # 11

 Newman Raises the Bar Again!!!

With the final rounds of the 2008 Points Series fast approaching, some fantastic hard and fast racing was to be expected, but that the battles that ensued throughout Round #11 were second to none, with the lap record being broken again by just under a second with Gavin Newman setting the new lap time in round 1 with a 30.399 seconds, the FTD record also being reset twice during the night with Nathan Tampe running a Siro powered Hyper 8.5 putting down 15 laps in 8m31.515 in heat 2 of round 3, then Gavin Newman coming out in heat 3 to lay down the guantlet and raised the bar again taking another 10 seconds out of it, to lay down 15 laps in 8m21.860.

Round 1 After a short delay due to a issue with the timing system round one got underway just after 8.00pm on a surface that was showing definate signs of that Holy Grail of racing, the blue groove!! After an intense wait on the start line Knauth - Xray 808 - RB and Newman Xray 808 - Axe Rossi, got a big jump on the field to take the holeshot side by side into the first corner, the two running away with it with both drivers under the existing lap record after a hard fought battle, it was Knauth taking the win 9.92 secs ahead of Newman with Shaun Rawlings - Xray XB8EC - Force in third just over 23 secs down, Neil Ingram, and Gary Bui rounding out the Top 5.

Round 2 saw another awesome battle between the front running Xray's of Newman, Knauth and Gary Bui, with Knauth getting into the 30 second bracket and Newman and Bui both running low 31's this was a race to remember with the 3 drivers putting on a brilliant show taking themselves and cars to the limit, at the final siren though it was Newman taking the win 7.09 secs ahead of Knauth in second and Bui third, Phil Ciccone - MBX5R - RB fourth, Ingram fifth, Rawlings, Tampe, Skip Jackson, Hodges and Tam Bui rounding out the Top Ten.

Round 3 saw Nathan Tampe raise the bar in this round being the first driver to put down a 15 lap race, then Newman comes out in heat 3 to go one better taking 10 seconds off Tampe's time, after a super fast clean race it was Newman with the win Tampe second and Knauth third. Tampe's Hyper 8.5 looking the business being super quick in places, showing some unbelievable grip in some of the toughest sections, a testament to Nathans setup.

Round 4 Another battle of the Xray's, with Xray's filling the Top 4 places, Knauth taking the win 5.17 secs ahead of Newman, Rawlings again pushing his EC and Force pullstart engine to the limit taking a well deserved third ahead of Gary Bui - Xray 808 fourth and Nathan Tampe rounding out the Top 5. The overall scores leading into the final round is Newman 6 points, Knauth 7 points, Gary Bui 18 points.

Round 5 the final round for the night saw Newman going into this round as the points leader with a 1 point buffer over Knauth, the 2 drivers putting on a huge show running down the whole field to put a lap on them by lap 12 of 14, Knauth taking a small margin over Newman to finish 3.75 secs ahead with Phillip Ciccone picking off the numer 3 spot, Rawlings fourth, Kyle Hodges HN X1CR - RB fifth Ingram, Tam Bui, Gary Bui Tom Jones - HN X1CR - RB, Skip Jackson - HN X1CR - RB filling the Top Ten. The Final round see's Newman and Knauth both on 8 Points in equal first, Newman taking the overall win though based on times, with Gary Bui third, Ciccone fourth, Ingram fifth.

In the overall 2008 Points Series standings, Gavin Newman is first ahead of Gary Bui in second and Tony Knauth in third, something of note is Xray is still holding the Top 6 places overall. Check the overall standings here.

And finally it's great to see young ladies getting into and enjoying RC racing, with young Samantha Coffee who has been racing with us for a while now, has been joined by another young lady just recently, Michelle Snowball, you go girls!!!! something of mention Samatha is holding down 14th overall in the Points Series, but is holding a close second to Henry Bui in the Junior class, well done Sam.

And good luck and racing to all those competing at the Worlds in the US next week, especially all the Aussies!!
